You're far from a noob, Oscalantine. From what little I know so far, you're are a veteran.

Yep, these are questions you couldn't know the answer to until you asked, and it's awesome that you are doing so before you go headlong into a big and detailed RP only to find that you weren't allowed to do that Razz

On the note of colonization though, I guess as Gracealona says you can't, but I do like the idea >_> perhaps we could all discuss it?

Ironically, it was I who sectioned off the rest of the map, but now I'm sort of open to re-opening the map. I'm up for discussion.

I dunno. I wasn't thinking much when I said this, and I'm not sure if I want other areas opened up right now... but I was thinking along the lines of reserve for new guys... or having continental alliances that fight against each other... but neither of them seem all that good.

PostSubject: Re: Map Discussion Thread   Wed Oct 27, 2010 2:53 am

Sorry for doubpost, but I wanted to bring this issue right now.

As of now, I've been seeing that the map that we have... I think the name was hiborea... is becoming kinda crowded. And I've been also seeing that there might be a problem of including new nations into the RP.

While yes, we did stop the new RPers from coming, I believe that we can also start planning for newcomers to come into the RP in somewhat of a near future. Therefore, I suggest that we start discussing the foundations for the map to the south of hiborea... that chunk in the south.

Before anyone starts talking, though, I wanted to make things PERFECTLY CLEAR...

No New colonizations: Seriously guys, even I've been guilty of expanding recently. We might want to stop at Hiborea and let others take the unoccupied lands

So wait... why open up new lands?: I wanted to prepare a fresh land for people to come in. I realize that as the RP filles up, it would be difficult for people to start when there are so many nations and treaties to take up. And they can, if they want to. But I wanted to also allow sort of "new guys barrier" against political pressures of old timers that we will become.

That can't be all... what are you scheming? Neutral ... Well, you are PERFECTLY right that again, I'm looking out for Corporate Interests Razz . The reason I also want to have new territories out is because I WANT DIFFERENT RESOURCES. I know that we are in the northern hemisphere of this new world, and therefore we do not have things that trophic regions. Imagine... Cacao trees, more oil, silicon, more oil, gravel (for cement), MORE OIL... oh and did I mention oil? (lol... jk, jk. I don't want oil. I just wanted to be funny.)
Indeed, more resources, more places to sell... yeah, money comes around. And I'd want some more cash!!!

Hmmm... I'm still unconvinced...: For all those that really don't want new land, listen to this: politics. That WILL happen. We've been waring so much because it is easy, and now things are settling down somewhat. However, we now have to move an entire ocean before we can war with other guys... that will make us use bit more of our head and less of our muscles. Alliances, treaty, betrayal, and drawn out politically minded wars will be all open to us! Why not?!

Oh and can we establish this?: The only instance where the guys that have the lands here can claim land there either with a REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY (x100) good reason or if you want to give up all your land and start fresh in new land. Let us not be so expansionistic anymore... the debate is tiring.

PostSubject: Re: Map Discussion Thread   Wed Oct 27, 2010 3:09 pm

Here is what I want to do with the map.

I am definitely opposed to prohibiting any future colonization efforts; that is a bit extreme, and is completely unfair to the newer roleplayers who have not had any chance to expand on their own terms (specifically, Civa-Orchestra, Ruzslava and New Numair). What I think we should do is instead limit the maximum number of expansions a nation can have. I propose that nations be allowed to annex at least two additional plots without any questions asked as long as they thoroughly roleplay this in detail. If they want to expand into more territory, they will have to submit an application or request and someone (probably me and/or Isis) will have to review it and decide whether or not it is appropriate. This will result in far more realistic politics and expansion of nations.

For the second point, the southern and eastern portions of the continent have rather balmy temperatures due to a warm ocean current that passes off the coast. That being said, tropical and sub-tropical climes can be found in the far south of Hiborea and along the eastern coast, except for the far northern portion of the east coast. The archipelago region is a predominantly sub-tropical and tropical one. Arctic and tundra zones dominant most of the western coast, however. The separation of these climes is aided by the physical barrier created by the massive mountain range running through the continent.

For war, I think we should realistically calculate deployment and such, which would be enforced by the Secretary of Culture. We already have a timescale determined, so we could determine the geographical distance between two countries and the speed at which armies or navies could mobilize, and then calculate how long it would take to move them there. We should also try to decide on some kind of regulation or standardization for determining the number of troops and the equipment/vehicles available.

For your last point, I have to ask you what country has never been expansionist? Europe is currently seeing a brief period where nations don't seem intent on invading one another; give it time, though, and it is almost garunteed that this will change. Likely in the near future. Every other continent is seeing some sort of expansionist agenda or fighting expansionist wars. Those that aren't, are dominated by sprawling countries who have more or less already achieved their expansionist goals. Countries like to expand, that is simply realistic, and we have all of this unclaimed land. If this were the real world, there would have been a Treaty of Versaille type thing by now where the borders and territories of the world would have been assigned and officialized. The total available area for expansion in Tiberiam is absolutely fucking massive; even if every country could take a total of three territories for themselves, it would probably take a significant amount of time to fill up the entire map with nations, and that will probably never happen anyways. There's no need to panic or open up the rest of the map just yet.

I like your idea to limit the number of expansions Ras. I think that it is definitley one of the most practical suggestions so far to address the over expansion problem.

(Sorry for so many short replies lately, I've been busy and am trying to maximize the time I get to spend on here)

Spoiler:

I agree with Ras completely. (And I read the entire novella.) In summary, a no-request-needed limit of two extra plots is a great idea. I have reached this quota and I am done with expansion.

I think this should be a bill in of itself. I think I'll edit my own legislation into "BE REALISTIC" bill.

As for your idea of two territories and further territories with permission... I think it is reasonable idea. I think that it goes par with what I said in the regional lounge, where I said that we should have a territory expansion thread that we request this to there before we RP for plots.

And... I guess that I agree partly with what you said about "no need to rush." The map itself does look like a lot of "good bits" are taken though. But I still want to have different resources as well. So... sometimes like ivory and such... can it be added in the other continents if you decide to do so? Either way, I should go ahead and not to overlap with your own bill. I'll edit my bill into Realism bill.

most likely off topic but anyway ok honestly Ocsa i supported this at first but not any more this is making it imposable for me because all of you and everyone else are trying to limit me from epanding my borders to where i feel comfortable and like i am satisfied with my nation i am trying to make an empire in many way way one as a trade empire how can you trade with no resouces? as a military empire what is the point of a army if u have nothing to protect
i that statment i post all of my fellings on the bill

You have oil, Hijjma. That alone could financially support your empire. You could trade for any other resources you need. Besides you can apply for more territory if you want.

I'll make this up into a bill for you guys.

Realize, dude, that I'm not trying to make a "anti-hijima" bill. Why am I getting so much emotion from just wanting to make things modern and realistic is beyond me.

I guess I shouldn't push for something that causes so much emotion... Although why would anyone get emotional over "try to be realistic" is beyond me

Oh and that would be swell, ras. I wonder if I made myself clear, but apart from your stands in resource diversity, I think you and I think alike in territory. I'd love RPed territories.

Something tells me Isis Rakael will sweep across Caspadius. Why not? It's her continent. (Her being the nation.)

I made a promise to Rasvidi when I returned that I would not be expanding for a long, long while. That said, if I go anywhere, it's going to be Plot 70 on the Caspadius map... since I'm already using it as a test fire site for my satellites.

Holy crap, I forgot this thread existed.

Anyways, Isis you already have two expansions (three plots) and our rule is that having more then three plots requires a really good reason, and really good roleplay, and I believe approval from the SoC before it can go through.

I gave you three since nations are allowed two expansions without restriction as long as they roleplay it.

I guess we're holding the plots of the recently inactive. I guess that makes sense.

Still, it's seriously time for Bautizar to be removed.
